I’ve had Amazon Prime for a few years now, and I straight up love it.  I can just about always find what I want on Amazon, even if it’s something unusual I’ve been searching far and wide for that doesn’t seem to be carried in any nearby stores.  And often it’s even cheaper online than in the big box stores, which is where the free 2-day shipping sweetens the deal.  (I’ll still pay more for something to support a local small business; otherwise, I love a bargain :-))  And this also means (with your membership) there’s still time to order gifts online and have them arrive before Hanukkah or Christmas!

But even as a huge Prime fan, I realized recently that I still don’t know all of the benefits included in my membership, and most people I talk to have no idea that Prime is more than just free 2-day shipping.  I was so excited by what I discovered when I went to Amazon to refresh my memory about my Prime benefits that I wanted to share it with you all!  The cost is $33 for three months of membership ($11/month), or just $99 per year ($8.25/month — how can you beat that?)  I hope you find this list helpful if you’ve been thinking about signing up!  (Be sure you read the note at the end of this post about my affiliate links, just so we’re on the up and up with the FTC…)

I’m not even going to count this as one of the 10 Things, but I wanted to let you know about this up front so you can keep it in mind as you read through all the great benefits included with a Prime Membership.  That way, when you decide to get one for yourself, you can just add another one for someone else on your list!  This is a perfect last-minute gift, by the way, for the procrastinators amongst us: no waiting for shipping, or dealing with the crowds at the shops! Amazon will send your gift recipient an email on the day you choose, along with redemption instructions.

1. Early Access to Deals

Prime members get access to Amazon’s Daily Deals 30 minutes before others.  That may not sound like a lot, but if you’re after something that sells out quickly, this can be the difference between snagging what you want, and missing out.

2. Prime Video

Stream thousands of movies and TV shows at no additional cost on over 200 devices.  I watch Amazon Prime Videos on my Roku Stick.  Just like my other favorite streaming channel, Netflix, the original series are well worth watching!

3. Kindle First

Choose one Kindle book from the six Editors’ Picks each month for free.  Even if you don’t have a Kindle, you can get the free Kindle App and read your free books on a PC, or your Android or Apple device.

4. Prime Reading

If the free monthly book is not enough, this new Prime benefit offers unlimited reading on any device, with over a thousand books, magazines, books with Audible narration, comics, articles, Kindle Singles, and more.  I have no idea how long this has been available, but this is one of the best surprises I found when I checked on what my Prime includes!

5. Prime Photos

I knew about this one, but had forgotten it existed — boy have I been missing out!  Prime Photos is only available to Prime members, and it includes unlimited cloud photo storage. Top that off with the ability to add up to 5 people to your Family Vault, where each member gets their own Prime Photos account to store unlimited photos plus 5 GB of videos and other files, free, as long as one person has a US-based Prime membership.  There are excellent search and organize features included.

6. Prime Now

If the 2-day shipping isn’t fast enough for you, there’s now 1- and 2-HOUR delivery on tens of thousands of items from Amazon and local stores.  This is only available in some major markets at this time, but expansion is coming!

7. Release Date Delivery

Eligible pre-ordered items are delivered to you on their release date to zip codes within the continental U.S. Great if you’re a person who likes to order the latest thing as soon as it’s available!

8. Amazon Dash Buttons

OK, this one is kinda crazy.  I’d heard of it, but I did not understand at all what it was.  Well, now I know, and it’s pretty dang cool. Amazon Dash Button is a Wi-Fi-connected device — a button — that reorders your favorite product with one press.  You pay $4.99 for each dash button (available for a huge number of major brands and products), and that amount is credited to your first order.  Set up the button on your home Wi-Fi, place it near the place where you use the product it is set up for, and press it to automatically place an Amazon order when you’re close to running out.  Here’s what they look like if you’re having trouble imagining it:

9. Audible Books

This one is another new benefit I didn’t know about.  Unlimited listening to original audio series and playlists on Audible.

10. Prime Music

Prime Music is a benefit of your Amazon Prime Membership, featuring a growing selection of 2 million songs, always ad-free and on-demand. For access to even more songs and new releases, Prime members get a special discount on Amazon Music Unlimited pricing.
